The Pine Creek Rail Trail Extension:

What was once one of Pennsylvania's Top Ten Trail Gaps is now a gateway to adventure. The completed Pine Creek Rail Trail Extension and Charleston Street Connector create a seamless connection between downtown Wellsboro and more than 65 miles of the renowned Pine Creek Rail Trail, giving walkers, runners, and cyclists a safe, direct route to the borough's shops, restaurants, hotels, and attractions.

A highlight of the project is the restored 1879 wrought-iron bridge spanning Marsh Creek, where history and recreation come together to preserve an important piece of Pennsylvania's transportation heritage while connecting today's trail users. The project also includes the Patterson Trailhead, a welcoming hub featuring visitor information, trail amenities, community exhibits, and resources to help visitors discover all that Tioga County has to offer.

This transformational project became a reality through the vision and collaboration of the Tioga County's Planning Department, Trail Advisory Council (TAC), DCNR, PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, local municipalities, and many dedicated community partners. Supported by $6 million in state investment—including $3.5 million from DCNR and $2.5 million from PennDOT—the extension strengthens regional connectivity, boosts tourism and local businesses, encourages healthy outdoor recreation, and enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors. More than a trail, it is a lasting investment in the region's future and a destination that will inspire generations to explore.
